It has been said, “You are either growing or dying.” It doesn’t matter if you are a plant or a person. The motions of human growth take being intentional, being self-aware, being self-motivated, and most of all a plan. As a friend, I have to ask how are you growing spiritually in your faith? in grace? in your love of Jesus Christ? How are you growing in your soul? your mind, will, and emotions? How is your physical health? Are you living a vibrant and abundant life?
Growing your Heart Garden
I love the metaphor of the Heart Garden. See My Heart Garden Story.
According to the Bible, our heart is a composition of all three components of our soul – our mind, will, and emotions – plus the most important part of our spirit – our conscience. See What Is the Biblical Heart? It is the expression of our inner life. Our inner life, our heart, can be compared to a beautiful garden of bright flowers, vegetables, shrubs and trees, fragrant soil, and an abundance of nurturing insects busy pollinating for harvest. Our Heart Garden exists behind our face and is the dwelling place for the God who loves gardens. It is the expression of our personality, our character, our very essence that makes us unique and delightful. Those little quirky things about you and me are like the bees and butterflies that pollinate the skills and talents that make us fruitful in life. Others may be able to do the things we do, but they don’t do it like we do!!
Your beautiful Heart Garden is designed, planted, and nurtured by the Master Gardener of the Universe. He is the One who put those skills, talents, and gifts in you. He brings the sunshine and the rain in your life. He allows the cycles of life to challenge you to reach higher and go deeper. But in His great wisdom, He gave the key to your Heart Garden stewardship to you.
Are you intentional in faithful watering when He withholds the rain? It is the consistency of our disciplines in prayer and bible study that keeps the plants in our heart healthy.
Do you keep an eye out for weeds that can steal life from your Heart Garden? Those little compromises of disobedience, the excuses, and justifications that we make for rebellion, steal nutrients from the roots of plants He has planted for nourishment and shade.
Are you flourishing in the fields of life, or do you feel like your garden, the inner part of you, has been neglected by other things in life stealing your time and energy?
Do you feel like you are digging through rock with a dull shovel? Have cold days, frosty mornings caused the leaves of hope to be stunted?
It can be a lonely place with despair overrunning the beautiful life-giving, fragrant plants, but I am here to offer you an invitation from my Heart Garden: “Come, Grow with Me.”
From My Heart Garden to Yours
All gardens are not alike. Mine is a delectable patch of flowers, shrubs, ornamental trees, and vegetables and fruit trees redeemed but still messy, delightfully organic, and strategic in purpose. Yours will be delightfully different.

- Sometimes we need a friend to say, “Let’s talk.” I will be that friend for you.
- Sometimes we need a shoulder to cry on and someone to say, “I care.” I will be there to say, “I care.”
- Other times, you need a helping hand to say, “ME TOO!!! But I am not there anymore. This is what worked for me.” I will be there to reach for you.
- Or, or maybe you need professional insight to facilitate wisdom in how to maneuver through the broken pieces of your story. I will give you space to share. I will meet you where you are and bring you to the One, who can redeem your story, the Healer King Jesus.
One thing I have learned in this journey called life is that when the wind from my garden blows over yours, or the wind releases the fragrance from your garden over mine, great things happen!!
