I wonder if anybody has ever done a documentary to expose the idolatry in the Christian church today of a false concept of God as Santa just waiting to fill their wish list and punishing them for being naughty? This false god shows up when you want something or is there to blame when bad things happen.
It really is sad that the error in this concept cheats a Believer from the depth of relationship that comes with loving God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength.
Santa God is buried in the waves of feel-good messages. “If He loves you, He will ______.” The problem with Santa Clause is he was part of your childhood. One day you heard daddy sneaking the toys down the hall and you knew. You couldn’t pretend anymore.
I wonder if that is that why there is so much confusion in the church?
The Bible says, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (By the way, just trying to obey is still an expression of love to Him.)
What are His commandments?
Do we really know?
Will loving Him the way He commands be costly sometimes?
I know that bringing the message of the gospel to a lost world and doing something about social injustice is important, but what about the error in our own house? How many Believers walk away disillusioned because they looked for what they could get out of the relationship rather than enjoy the relationship?
I can’t help but think about Moses. Moses did not get a pep-talk at the burning bush. He got a revelation of who God is and that deposit of fire empowered him to be God’s friend.
I want to be God’s friend, don’t you?
