Symbols in dreams may mean more than one thing. Some may have positive or negative aspects. While there is one interpretation, there may be several applications of symbols.
The general rule of thumb when looking at dreams – “If one area is symbolic, the entire dream is symbolic.”
Hint: People in Dreams are usually symbolic of what their name means or something about their character.
To understand the symbols of Biblical dream interpretation, trying looking at symbols in the concordance and see the significance in the Bible. However, our dream language is made up of our day and our experiences. Many of the Biblical dreams were agricultural because it reflected their agrarian society.
Some dreams are complex while most dreams are quite common. Common Dreams Themes of:
Dreams involving:
House: life issues, past or present or spiritual family
Take note of the décor. Is it your current home? What room are you in? The back porch indicates an issue from your past.
Is it another house? Perhaps your parent’s? There may be a family issue that is being sorted out.
Vehicles: shows what the dreamer is doing and his or current purpose in life
Often referred to as ministry, vehicles reflect your activities in life. Bicycles mean your own power. Airplanes mean great acceleration. The color of the vehicle will also have meaning.
Teeth: ability to understand, discernment problems
Loose teeth – Would be the loss of understanding of an area
Wallet/purse: dreamer’s life purpose, identity or favor
Losing a purse or wallet may indicate struggles in identity
Cellphone: reflects a person’s calling
Losing a phone or hearing it ring may be a transition to a calling
Death – Someone dying: an era is ending or something coming to an end
It is always a freak out moment to see death in your dream. But take comfort; unless you have watched a horror show recently, it is signaling a transition. It will be a good thing.
Flying: person has the ability to move in the spirit realm, rise above problems
Wonderful self-realization dream of freedom to rise above the tethers of your problems.
Falling: some segment of a person’s life is in a tailspin(or) person has or is losing control of a situation
That sensation of losing control is an indication of an area that you may feel that you are losing control of
Being Naked: reveals vulnerability or transparency
Most uncomfortable dream, will reveal an area of your life that you feel unprepared or vulnerable in. The body part that is uncovered will also indicate an area that you are feeling exposed.
Being Chased: circumstances generating fear, running away from something
Waking up with your heart pounding trying to escape danger, may mean that you are in overwhelming circumstances and you are looking for a way out.
Returning to past relationships: reverting to old habits, thought patterns
Another upsetting dream is returning to past relationships. Take note of your thought patterns. Perhaps that is what is the rubber band to the past.
Having a Nightmare: intimidation, inducing fear, rejection of spiritual things
Never fun. But God sometimes uses terror to get our attention. Be sure to ask Him if there is an area that needs to revealed to be healed.
Seeing a Deceased relative: refers to generational issues
Some people believe that it is the soul of their loved one that has visited them in the night but most often they are a symbol of some issue that is generational that God is trying to highlight.
Using the Bathroom: cleansing off of life’s negative issues
Potty dreams are just gross but are a great indication that God is taking care of something in the spiritual realm and flushing it away – that is unless it is your body getting your attention to wake up and take care of some business.
Taking a test: person being tested for purposes or promotion
Take note of the circumstances – are you passing the test, did you study?
Animals – usually represent their nature
Horses: usually represents power & authority
Dogs: friendship, loyalty, protection, context may vary
Reptiles: dreamer being harassed by lies, accusations or distortions.
