Although it makes it easier if you have all the facts, your truth remains in your hands as to how you will respond. Will you quit building? Will you go up? Will you go left? Or right?
Say you are on the freeway and someone comes barreling up to you blowing the horn. You have the choice to become angry and respond like a jerk or get out of the way. You may never know what their emergency was but what was important was your choice. You may have prevented a highway pileup.
Say you are at a gathering, say church, and someone seems rude and doesn’t speak to you. You have the choice to be offended at their snub or you can choose to give them space. Perhaps they were having a bad day. One thing you can be sure of is that 98% of the time it is not about you. As the center of their own universe, who knows where they were in their revolution around the sun?
From my limited observations in the classroom of life, there seem to be two classes of people – glass-half-full or glass half-empty. Half-empty people seem invariable to choose negative, pessimistic, self-defeating paths in life. While half-full people encounter just as many bumps in the road, but their “can-do” attitude seems to direct their choices up.
The Bible says God’s mercies are new every morning. It is our choice to rejoice and be glad in it. I truly believe as our minds are transformed to be more like Christ’s, half-empty thinking can become half-full thinking. It is a choice. It is kinda like creating a new habit. It is the discipline of choice to choose to be positive, thankful, to rejoice. Happiness is a choice that comes out to a place of contentment.
Our pastor once said two of the most important decisions you will ever make is “What are you going to do about God?” and “Who will you marry?” Those are two pivotal choices everyone will have to wrestle with some time in their life. I have thought about my choices in these two areas a lot. How different my life could have been had I chosen differently? A poor soul mate choice would have been like the bratty neighbor kid who kicks over your Lego masterpiece.
Today I am choosing to love
-my precious Lord with all my heart, mind, and soul.
-myself – enough to go workout.
-others – praying for grace to edify even the unlovely.
